8 things I have always wondered about birds

1. How do they know how to make nests?

Every time you look at a tree, you can see nests everywhere, but how did the birds know to make them? Most birds have mastered the art of best building, and it is mostly a community affair. They need shelter to rest and lay their eggs and what best to do it than to make the best?

2. What do they do when it rains?

Believe it or not, birds are waterproof. Rain does not distract them from carrying out their regular duties. Smaller birds or baby birds, however, take shelter because their wings are not strong enough to protect them.

3. Can birds differentiate themselves from other species?

Scientists and bird behaviour analysts do not have a definite answer to whether birds can tell their selves apart. There are some species like crows that can tell the difference, but most of the other species cannot determine the difference.

4. Why do birds take care of their eggs so much?

When female birds lay eggs, the instincts inside them automatically make them feel that they have a connection with whatever is in the egg, and they need to protect it at all costs.

5. How do birds know it is migration season?

Bird migration is a wonder to many. Birds always migrate around the same time every year. How do they know that? Birds have a natural timing system, they tell time with the season they are in, the temperature of the place, and how and where the wind is blowing. It is a pretty cool system of telling time.

6. Who leads their flight formation?

Birds do not have a chosen leader. Any bird in the flock can get to fly them, although when leading, the bird needs to have skills so that they get to where they need to be safe.

7. Can the female bird lay an egg with twins?

It is possible to have two birds in the same egg. They can share the egg yolk or have two yolks in the same egg. The truth of the matter is that only one bird will survive, or both will not make it out alive.

8. What is up with birds and glass windows?

Birds cannot see glass windows, and unfortunately, this is the number one reason why birds die. Progress has, however, been made to make buildings use less harmful glass.

9. Why do they wake us up?

The internal timing of birds has made it possible for them to start screaming when they see the sun rising. Some people just ignore their call and sleep through nature’s alarm clock.

10. Do birds sleep at night?

Yes, birds do sleep. They need all the rest they can help so that they can continue with their cycle the next day.

I still have a lot of unanswered questions about the bird’s lifestyle, but most of them are still under intense research. Until next time.
